- Is everything really free?
- Yes. Every app listed is free to open and use. A few DeFi apps need crypto to actually swap, lend, or trade — but browsing, signing in, and using non-financial features is always free.
- How do these apps survive without ads or subscriptions?
- Most are funded by community treasuries, grants from the DFINITY Foundation, or built-in token economics. Infrastructure is paid for in ICP cycles by the app itself rather than billed to you. We have not benchmarked that against equivalent cloud hosting, so treat it as a different funding model rather than a cheaper one.
- Are open-source apps in this list?
- Many are. Where we could verify a public source repository, we link it in the Source section of that app's detail page; where we could not, the page says so rather than staying silent. Open source isn't required to be listed, but it is common.
