- Yes. OpenChat is community-governed — owned by its users, not by a company. Messages are stored in canisters on the Internet Computer rather than on a private cloud.
- Can my account or community be banned?
- There's no central admin who can shut down an app or community. Moderation happens at the community/DAO level, not via a single corporate gatekeeper.
- Are messages encrypted?
- Group messages on OpenChat are encrypted in transit and on the Internet Computer. Some social apps (Capsl, ICPanda) add end-to-end encryption on top so even the app developer can't read content.
- Do I need an email or phone number to sign up?
- No. Sign in with Internet Identity (a passkey on your device). No email, no phone, no personal data shared.
