Frequently asked questions
- Is on the Internet Computer DeFi safe?
- Smart-contract risk always applies — bugs in code can cause losses. The Internet Computer eliminates one common attack surface (you don't need browser extensions or seed phrases) but you should still only use audited apps and only deposit what you can afford to lose.
- Do I need to know crypto to use these apps?
- Some apps (OISY) use passkey sign-in with zero crypto knowledge required. Others assume you understand swaps, staking, or lending. The app's tagline + description usually signal which group it's in.
- Can I trade Bitcoin and Ethereum natively?
- Yes. The Internet Computer has chain-key cryptography that produces ckBTC and ckETH — these aren't wrapped tokens. ICPSwap, OISY, and Liquidium all use them.
- Are there gas fees?
- Almost none, by design. ICP transactions are paid by the canister hosting the app (in cycles). For most user actions you'll pay nothing; for heavy DEX trades you may pay a small protocol fee.
