- Is OISY as strong as a Trezor?
- It is a different model rather than a stronger one, and which is safer depends on what you are protecting against. A Trezor holds your private key on a device in your drawer. OISY's signing key is never held in one place at all: it is generated by the Internet Computer and split into shares across independent nodes, so no single machine holds it, and neither OISY nor the DFINITY Foundation can move your funds. Your passkey authorises you to the network; it does not hold the key. That removes the seed phrase and the lost-device problem, and trades trusting your own hardware for trusting the network's cryptography. For holdings you genuinely could not replace, a dedicated offline signing device is still the stronger answer.
- Can I still use a hardware key with OISY?
- Yes. A YubiKey or other FIDO2 security key can be registered as one of your passkeys, so signing in requires physical hardware. Note what that does and does not do: it protects how you authenticate, not where the signing key lives, which is still with the network.
- What if I lose all my devices?
- Register more than one passkey up front (phone, laptop, ideally a security key). Any one of them signs you back in. If you lose every registered passkey with no recovery method set up, access is gone: there is no company holding your account and nothing to reset.
- Is OISY truly free?
- Yes, there is no paid tier. Network fees still apply to anything that settles on Bitcoin or Ethereum, because those go to those networks rather than to OISY.
